A Catholic Engineering Design Process

A Catholic Engineering Design Process

Audience: Secondary
Descriptor: A Catholic Engineering Design Process (CEDP)embeds components of the Catholic Graduate Expectations, social teachings, and other Catholic-focused learning, into the design process, as students build and construct projects. This resource embeds and integrates foundational Catholic teachings into new, mandatory components of learning in grades 1-8 and 9-10. The CEDP supports students in learning not only about an engineering design process, but also about Catholic graduate expectations, teachings, and perspectives in their designs. Examples include when considering the material used, students would consider stewardship of the earth, and renewable resources (connects closely to OCSGE “respects the environment and uses resources wisely”). When focusing on who they are designing for (the end-user), students will consider important moral and ethical considerations including safety and accessibility (connects closely to OCSGE “acts morally and legally as a person formed in Catholic traditions”). This resource is available as a Google document and in D2L.
