B12 – St. Michael’s College School: Challenging Conversations- Navigating Church Teaching and Affirming Human Dignity to Address Contemporary Issues in Catholic Sex Education

Presenters: Calvin Cahatol & Stephen Antolin
Audience: Secondary

Given messages from contemporary secular culture, media, and misinformation about the Catholic Catechism it can be challenging for contemporary teenagers (and teachers) to navigate virtues and vices when it comes to issues of sexuality, relationships, gender and identity inside and outside of the classroom. Using the lens of Catholic Moral Theology, principally the appeal to human dignity, and humanity being created in the image and likeness of God, this workshop deals with teaching contemporary issues of sexual education, relationships, and identity with a grounded Catholic perspective. Leaving this workshop you will feel more competent when navigating a range of challenging conversations while promoting Catholic values.
